Samsung has officially unveiled its new Freestyle Gen 2 smart projector, which features, among other things, the Gaming Hub function. Thanks to this, we can use our favorite cloud gaming services, such as Xbox Game Pass, Nvidia Geeforce Now, or Amazon Luna, directly with the projector without any additional hardware.
Of course, to immerse yourself in the world of video games, you also need a stable internet connection, since the titles are not played locally by the rendering device, but by the remote servers of the selected service.
The Freestyle Gen 2 is compatible with a wide range of Bluetooth controllers, and to ensure a smooth user experience, it comes with more memory than its predecessor.
Along with the projector, a Samsung SolarCell remote control is also provided, which is solar charged, but of course you can also make up for power lost via the traditional USB-C connector.
The rest of the main features are pretty much the same as the first generation Freestyle. The image size displayed by the projector can range from 30 to 100 inches, and the resolution is up to Full HD. The device has HDR10+ support, a contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and supports 360-degree surround sound, made possible by a 5-watt speaker system. It obviously won’t stop your home theater system, but it’s nice to have.
The Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 smart projector runs on the Tizen operating system, and the South Korean-developed virtual assistant Bixby is part of the software. There are only two connectors on the device, a mini HDMI port and a USB-C port.
One of the coolest features of the projector is that you just point the light at the wall, and then the projector automatically adjusts the output, so you don’t have to worry about positioning.
The Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 is now available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s US website, where you can get the device for $800 (~281,000 HUF). Deliveries are expected to begin on September 1. Those who pre-order will receive a carrying case as a gift. And since the first generation is also here, it’s likely that Samsung’s new projector will reach us in due course.
