The institutes of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen presented their research, which they conduct in cooperation with other faculties of the institution. The basis of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology’s courses is world-class research work: year after year, lecturers achieve significant results through their scientific research, which are integrated into the teaching materials, and the curriculum is constantly updated. – We started the Science Day event at TTK four years ago on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the college, with the aim of creating a tradition. Scientific research is very important at our school, and all our colleagues are expected not only to teach, but also to develop their science, and we try to contribute to the development of our field of science with our results – stressed Ferenc Kuhn, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, at the event, who They said they were right to be proud of the institution’s academic performance, which was supported by the numbers.
– Five of our organizational units, four institutes and one department won the honorary title of Outstanding Research Site of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences tender. Currently, the Hungarian Research Network includes ten distinct TTK research groups, and we also have two groups from Momentum and two groups from Edge Research. In total, six of our employees have won the Lendület project so far – these are unique numbers. In the latest subject ranking of Natural Sciences within the University Circular Ranking, our university ranked 89th, and the faculty’s researchers have contributed significantly to the result. The background of research work is quality infrastructure, we have made great progress in this area as well, and two of our laboratories are in the list of the top 50 research infrastructure in Hungary – detailed by Ferenc Kühn.
More cooperation is the goal
The commander emphasized: The event is a kind of military review of research work and results, which always has a theme. Last year, the TTK Excellence Research Groups presented themselves, and this year they focused on collaboration. Many projects are being implemented with other colleges of the university, and this has given a comprehensive picture of them. It is no secret that they intend to stimulate more cooperation.
Szabolcs Harangi, geologist from the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences of ELTE, opened the event program with his presentation. Regarding the opening lecture topics, they are usually related to the events going on around us, and this time it was no different, as there have been a surprising number of earthquakes in Hungary recently. Professor Harangi spoke about the action of volcanoes and the formation of earthquakes.
The opening lecture was read by six experts from TTK and the Institute of Biology, Environment, Biotechnology, Physics, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Chemistry. Participants were able to learn in detail about the research resulting from cooperation between colleges.
