The end result is surprising, but only if we haven't seen last year's top list.
Among other things, you can tell that Halloween is approaching by the fact that the MoneySupermarket organization ranks the scariest horror films of all time according to the timeline.
Hundreds of volunteers watch several hours of horror films, each equipped with a heart rate monitor, while the experiment leaders monitor their heart rates. Researchers also introduced a new recording system last year, and now they monitor not only heart rate, which is measured in beats per minute (BPM), but also heart rate eccentricity, which is measured in milliseconds (m/s). The two scores are then combined to give each film a “scary score” on a scale of 100.
According to the study, the scariest horror film of all time remains Scott Derrickson's 2012 supernatural horror film Sinister, which saw viewers' heart rates increase by 34 percent. The film, in which a writer played by Ethan Hawke discovers a box full of disturbing movies and sets off a series of terrifying supernatural events, topped the list in 2020 and 2023, but fell to second place in 2021 and 2022.
There has been no major realignment at the top of the list, with 2020's The Last Rite (The Host) and Skinamarink (2022) still on the podium, followed by Insidious (2010), Among Demons (2013), Erökség (2018) and Smile (2022). He follows. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), Hell House LLC (2015) and 2022's Talk to Me!
Among the films of 2024, Oddity, which opened in 20th place, proved to be the scariest, and this year's big horror film, Bohócrém 3, which will also be shown in our cinemas, entered the top 50, along with Stopmotion, which is spotless, Long-legged – horror and the first omen.
