Scruton – a place in the capital where gastronomy and intellectual heritage meet

When you enter Scruton, you will experience vibrant community life. Various cultural and social programs, exciting content. How can the restaurant and the meal be linked to all of this?

KFD: Sir Roger Scruton, our namesake, also talks about this in one of his writings “In all traditional societies, eating was considered a communal and often religious act, decorated with rituals and treated as a form of celebration.” In fact, this is what our philosophy is all about. We look at meals as a holiday: if only for a short time, we get the opportunity to get away from everyday life. Let's meet, talk and experience the joy of eating together. At this point, public space and culinary art combine perfectly.

How can the menu adapt to this philosophy?

KFD: Interesting question, How to incorporate Scruton's conservative, value-creating mindset into food preparation and selection. Perhaps the most exciting way to do this is to preserve tradition through our food, where we rethink many recipes with a Hungarian flavour. Or we could also mention our drinks range, which also showcases Scruton's love for wine.

What dishes can guests choose from?

BG: When creating our menu, it is very important that we are able to serve our guests as broadly as possible. Our current offer includes a mix of Asian cuisine and Hungarian flavours, so everyone can find food they love to eat. In addition to our a la carte menu, we also offer breakfast/lunch and a weekly menu.

How can you renew yourself, how can you surprise regular guests with novelties?

B.J.: We update our menu approximately every three months, adapting the menu to seasonal dishes and ingredients. Just as the name itself is important to us, we ship fish flakes from Rétimajor, for example.

We tasted your coffee, we really liked it! What is worth knowing about him?

KFD: We offer several types of coffee-based drinks, so everyone can find something they like. As with our menu, we also strive to select high-quality coffee products. We source our coffee from a smaller roaster, Impresso Micro Roastery. They provide us with high quality specialty coffee.
