From March 4, food waste collection will begin in residential buildings in Kecskemét, affecting 25,000 apartments in 900 residential buildings across the city. Details of the new service were announced on Monday afternoon at the House of Science and Arts to joint representatives of the residential units, who attended the event in large numbers.
At the press conference, Katalin Varga, Customer Service Manager at DTkH Nonprofit Kft., and Judit Borsvai-Horvath, Product and Material Flow Manager at MOHU MOL Waste Management Zrt., informed the audience about the details of the new type of garbage collection, while Elisa Toth, scientific researcher, explained At Bannon University, How to Waste Food, he spoke to the audience about the scientific background and environmental importance of his collection.
On behalf of the city, Csaba Orbán, Head of the Public Service Organization and Municipal Environmental Protection Department, was present, who expressed his happiness that the Ministry of Housing chose Kecskemét as one of the 14 cities where selective collection of food waste will begin this year.
The new system will be voluntary and free, and participating housing units will receive a 120-litre brown bin, and each apartment will receive a 5-litre bin to collect green kitchen and food waste. During most of the year, bins will be emptied once a week, but from June to October they will be emptied twice a week, and DTkH will also clean them once a month for free.
Starting February 20, participating representatives will have the opportunity to receive the new boxes, but condominiums can continue to apply for the service after that.
