Alleged comments from Space Marine 2 development team leader condemn 'moral games'…
Matthew Karch, CEO of Sabre Interactive, which wrote Space Marine 2, condemned the games that “Ethics are imposed on players.”
The comment, posted on a little-used YouTube account named Matthew Karch, raised questions about whether the account belonged to Karch himself or was an impersonator.
Space Marine Studio 2Sabre Interactive declined to comment on the matter. But according to a post on LinkedIn, the comment may actually have come from Kartsch.
To another LinkedIn user who shared the original comment, Karch's LinkedIn account replied: “Whoever wrote this seems very sharp,” Which apparently confirms the legitimacy of the comment.
“I love your videos,” read the original YouTube comment posted in response to one of Asmongold’s videos.
“When we signed on to make Space Marine 2, I just wanted a throwback game. We had the opportunity to work on something that was inherently ‘old school.’ A lot of the current games we play these days I can’t even understand. They’re too complicated and too big of an investment.
“We wanted to bring that back. I hope games like Space Marine 2 and Wukong are the beginning of a return to a time when games were about fun and immersion. I worked as COO at Embracer for a while, and I saw games there that made me cry because of their over-the-top attempts to deliver messages or impose morality on players.
Earlier this year, Embracer sold its Saber Interactive group, which includes studios like 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks, for $247 million.
Another comment on the same video, allegedly from creative director Oliver Hollis-Lake's account, read: “Everything you say about the story and the characters resonates strongly with our actual approach.”
“It’s great to hear you name the specific things we intentionally focused on. It’s been four and a half years of intense work and passion, and seeing videos like this makes it all worth it.”
