Spooky circles in the African desert – could there finally be a scientific reason?

In the African country of Namibia, there is a fascinating mystery that has scientists excited. Namibian fairy circles are geological formations found in the Namibian desert. It consists of circular depressions that provide a particularly picturesque picture.

The diameter of imaginary circles can range from a few meters to 100 metres. The distance between individual formations also varies, but can usually be estimated at 2-10 metres. The exact cause of the formation of fairy circles is still disputed, but according to the most widely accepted theory, competition between plants and the distribution of water in the soil play a role.

Imaginary circles are created by alternating periods of rain and drought. During rainfall, water entering the surrounding soil helps plants grow, but during dry periods it is difficult for plants to fight over water sources. As a result, plants in the central part die, creating a circular void that the surrounding plants cannot fill.

Locals believe in certain myths and superstitions that protect against bad luck and illness that are said to occur after leaving or disturbing fairy circles.

The fairy circles of Namibia attract tourists not only because of their scenery, but also because by exploring and studying them, we can better understand nature’s many secrets. There is a lot of ongoing research into the process and effects of chimeric circuit formation, so that we can learn more about the diversity and complexity of nature.
