The head coach of the Canadian women's soccer team, Bev Priestman, was expelled from the Olympics after it was revealed that he and two teammates used a drone to monitor an opponent's training session, the newspaper reported. France24Team Canada played its first game of the Games on Thursday, beating New Zealand 2-1.
Two staff members, analyst Joey Lombardi and secondary coach Jasmine Minder, were sent home on game day after the drone was spotted. Priestman also missed Thursday's game because of the incident, and was scheduled to be on the bench for Canada's game against host France on Sunday.
But according to the Canadian Association, they have received new information about the spying, so they have decided to send the priest home as well. The team's other second coach, Andy Spence, will lead the team for the remainder of the Olympics.
