Instead of summer sunshine, it’s near freezing, and instead of sand it’s snow—nothing can deter runners on the Hungarian beach from playing.
After a two-year hiatus, the second National Snowball Championship was held on Saturday at the ice rink in the picturesque city park. In 3 categories, a total of 21 teams pulled the cleats and stood on the field.
Because of the streaming music and the gift of chestnuts and wine, the competition turned into a true winter festival. No matter how difficult sliding play is, it is one of the most anticipated events of the year for them.
Adriann Czene, who also toured Suvivor’s survival show, said it’s nice to have something to prepare for between the two seasons, and the audience is excited about it even if the girls aren’t bikini-clad.
The men’s championship was won by Isaac Suss (FC Sports), Pence Tare, Okus Ferris (SRSE) in two thrilling matches against Laszlo Kon Benedek (SRSE), Balint Boganks (Malev), Stefan Molnar, Zulte Mager (Mali) SE Officer. The women’s trio of Gyor (KB), Zandra Zumbatheli and Leela Film (Fez) beat Ursulia Meester, Fani Gracza Suti and Lisa Luther (RC of Godolo).
Snow volleyball was invented and introduced by the Austrians a few years ago. The size of the field and the height of the net is the same on the beach, but there are three people playing on a team here… they are better dressed.
The sport has already made its debut at the 2018 Pyongyang Winter Olympics and is likely to be an official event in 5 years. Thus, the winners of the Budapest Championships were able to qualify for the World Tour and other world competitions.
