NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that they estimate that China will have 1,500 nuclear warheads that could reach North America and Europe by 2035.
Stoltenberg answered the questions at the press conference held at the end of the NATO summit in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
Asked about China, Stoltenberg said the NATO summit, especially NATO’s negotiations with Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan, sent strong messages towards China.
“Security is not only regional, but global,” Stoltenberg, NATO’s secretary general, declared, as he pointed to China’s investment in military capabilities.
“We expect China to have 1,500 nuclear warheads on missiles that can reach all of North America and Europe by 2035. And we see how close China is,” Stoltenberg said.
Jens Stoltenberg mentioned that China has reached many parts of the world, such as Africa and the Arctic, and has tried to control critical infrastructures and entered cyberspace,
Jens Stoltenberg said they are working with NATO partners in the Indo-Pacific region, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan, on combating disinformation and maritime security.
