The newest building of the Ace Hotel chain in Sydney is inspired by the red shades of the Australian desert, while indoor plants evoke the ambiance of a rainforest.
The 257-room hotel in downtown Sydney, the newest member of the Ace hotel family, was designed by local Flack Studio. The American hotel company has now opened a hotel in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time, and for the fun of this, they’ve drawn entirely from the traditions of Australian nature and culture.
The On the ground floor of the hotel A spacious lobby, bar, restaurant and lounge await guests, but the hotel also has a rooftop restaurant. The spaces are defined by distinctive shades of orange and red that evoke the colors of the Australian desert. This is further emphasized by the reddish herringbone stairs and the terracotta tiles laid in the bathrooms belonging to the rooms. In addition to the desert, they also pay tribute to the rainforest: lush houseplants were used for this.
But local nature wasn’t the only inspiration: The Flack Studio team was also inspired by the work of local architect Robin Boyd, who built his career on the use of local materials and functions.
The interiors are decorated with the work of local ceramic artists and the work of the graphic studio Studio Ongarato, whose aesthetics dates back to the 1970s.
