Eleven matches, ten wins, one draw, six points clear at the top of the standings. Did you expect such a good start in Komarom?
We were certainly hoping to move around the top three in the table, but neither I nor the team expected to have such a big points advantage after eleven rounds.
KFC was already considered a leading team last year, but now they have managed to advance. This is due to what they are doing better this year
Of course, we finished third last year, and second place was already worthy of the ranking, but we can even take the season two years ago, when the top three reached the top and we finished in fourth place. I think the solution is that the core of the team has remained the same for about three years. If we look at a typical starting team these days, we play football together for six or seven years. If we take the entire frame, it will be about twelve. We already know each other, we’ve bonded with each other, and we know what to expect from each other.
Is this also true for the Legion? There aren’t many of them in Komarom (Janbayar, Adaelo, and Baemi), but based on the numbers, they are considered quality reinforcements.
That’s right, there are three or four of them in total. It took us some time to get to know their style and personalities, but the fact is that they have been playing football here for three or four years, so we don’t consider them a crowd anymore. We have the same relationship, and we talk to them the same way we talk to each other. This also benefits team morale.
Now that the schedule is so promising, is promotion being discussed more often?
We already talked about it before the tournament, that it will be difficult and that the season will be long, but we still want to move at the beginning of the table, around the top two or three places. Even though we are in first place, we take the next opponent seriously. We progress from game to game, not long-term goals floating before our eyes.
As it stands, the people of Ibirge and Boho seem to be the biggest contenders. Do they feel that way in Komarom too?
Well, it’s a fact that they’re behind us now, but I can’t see them as real championship contenders. Boshov trails by six points, and we’ll play in their place next time. They will be under a lot of pressure, not us. All we have to do is play calmly and of course we want to win.
How do you rate your season so far? He has already scored five goals, compared to six in the entire season last year, which is a personal best…
I don’t like to talk about myself because it’s a team sport. If I don’t pass, we don’t score, and if they don’t pass to me, we don’t score. I’m happy that I was able to score so many times and I hope the continuation will be the same, but the goal is made up of the work of many people, so I don’t think too much about it.
He mentioned that they are progressing from game to game, but is it still in your mind that they can play in the Niké Liga next year? What’s more, the new stadium in Komarom, which could be completed by spring 2024?
The goal of all of us is to be in the First League once in our career, especially since everything has already added up: we will have a stadium, and we have a good team that deserves to show itself in the First League. I think there are more of us who can play at this level. This team is ready for the first division.
If we look at a typical Komarom team during the season, we can see that you are the only Hungarian in Slovakia. Does it give you some kind of special feeling, perhaps more stimulation?
Yes, this year it turns out I’m usually alone in the starting lineup. A year or two ago, this would not have been the case, because Krzysztof Domonkus, Lasse Szocs or Kornel Salata were also present. But it is important to add that there are many Hungarians from Slovakia in the whole team, but now the starting lineup has developed in such a way that I am usually the only one. It’s just that the team is in good shape now, and as a result, coach Miklos Radvany rarely makes changes. A crisis can come at any time, and it can bring with it changes. Or take the cup matches, where the team usually changes several places, and then there are also more Hungarians from the Highlands.
How realistic is it for KFC to finish the fall season undefeated?
We haven’t talked about this yet, we still have six rounds to go. We don’t deal with this, because it’s easy to get caught up in such thoughts. Now we are only focusing on the match against Boshov. Let us win a lot of matches, then we can speak more boldly about our goals.
