A group of videographers did an interesting experiment, but this is not surprising: the strange but cheap method worked so well that they were able to open a locked Tesla.

According to many, Tesla is the king of electric cars, which is proven by its performance and built-in safety solutions. Elon Musk himself, the head of the automaker, often says how hard it is to steal Teslas. Well, we don’t know if he still sticks to that claim, but after watching a new video, he should definitely reconsider his position.

The Donut Media team recently pledged to ride a Tesla with free software and a penny accessory. Not only did the experiment turn out successful, it was so simple that the videographers didn’t expect it. A short film was also made about the process with all the details:

The hero of the event was a relay device designed by the team, which, according to Sultan Qasim Khan, cybersecurity consultant at NCC Group, represented an investment of about $10. Since we are talking about two such devices, you have to count on $20. The relays are powered by software, but are free, so only the hardware required for the device has a cost. In the case of $20, that means approximately 8000 HUF. The device is made with everyday ingredients that can be purchased online.

In the video, they are trying to get into a Tesla worth 80 thousand dollars, and the most surprising thing is that they succeeded for a few moments. Of course, for this, one of the videographers had to be next to the car, holding one of the relays that act as a transceiver. The other helped his partner with the relay from a distance, but also with the computer.

The creators tell Elon Musk at the end of the recording to urgently correct the error.
