Techno parties have become part of German cultural heritage

March 15, 2024 – 5:36 pm

The German Ministry of Culture and UNESCO have included Berlin's techno scene on the list of the country's intellectual heritage – Deutsche Welle reports. According to the justification, this is because the parties contributed greatly to developing the city’s cultural identity.

According to the club committee, which represents Berlin clubs, this is another achievement achieved by producers, artists, clubs and organizers together. They hope the decision will help others see the value in the tech scene and thus ensure its survival – which has been greatly at risk due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Intangible cultural heritage includes forms of cultural expression that are clearly linked to human creativity and tradition and that are transmitted from one generation to another, while the form of expression is constantly changing and adapting to the conditions of the times.

Examples include a Mohács bus tour, Hungarian dance halls, Matteo folk art, the Kodaly method, Lipizzan horse breeding, traditional Syrian glass blowing, or Italian opera singing.

Berlin's techno scene has been added to the national list, so activists continue working to add it to UNESCO's Great Cultural Heritage List. The National List has now been added to the list

  • Finsterwald singing;
  • Kirchseeon Perchtenlauf, a procession similar to a Bavarian bus ride;
  • Schwälmer Weißstickerei fabric stitching technique;
  • Fizzy apple juice.
  • Mountaineering in Saxony.
