This little green Android character (mascot, doll, doll, full body avatar – who likes it) is inseparable from Google’s operating system. And the company decided to change the shape of the figure just before the release of Android 14, in reference to its brand update.

In 2019, Google announced a major change to its operating system: it is dropping candy names and from now on it will refer to new major releases in increasing numbers. Four years later, we are facing change again, and this time the search giant has decided to refresh its branding. With Android 14 approaching, Google has announced that the Android mascot will get a new 3D look and the platform logo will also change.

The Android doll finally exits the level, goes into space, and gets new colors, including a rainbow look, accessories (like a headband and hat), and some fun animations. According to Google, they have updated the “full body look of the robot […]So you can easily switch between a digital environment and a physical environment, so you can be a versatile and reliable partner across channels, platforms, and contexts.”

The writing of the Android logo will also change, so instead of all the lowercase letters in the logo until now, it will become a real name: the first letter of it will be a capital letter. The new Android logo takes elements from the Material Design system to match Google’s branding. By the way, the Android logo font is also being updated, so we’ll likely see these changes under OS updates as well. Google is confident that small but significant font updates will improve connectivity between Android devices and Google apps and services.

Google also mentioned that the updated branding, along with the new 3D logo, will appear on Android devices and elsewhere later this year. And the company is holding an event on October 4 to announce the Pixel 8 series. This is likely where the new Android brand will debut first.
