Without explanation, Telekom/T-Mobile has stopped distribution of the new T Phone 2 Pro 5G mobile phone in several countries with immediate effect. We asked the Hungarian telecom company why.
Last year, Hungarian Telekom debuted its own brand of mobile phones, and we tested one of the devices. Until then, the entry-level was the main target, with the company achieving moderate success, but this was enough to launch new and more advanced T-phones in 2024. The AT Phone 2 Pro was also our guest for testing, and we had no bad opinion of it, as it offers sufficient performance, good software support, 5G and eSIM management for less than HUF 100,000. However, now news has spread that there is a problem with the hardware – a problem so big that a remote firmware update cannot be fixed. We have checked the truth of this rumor at Telekom in Hungary.
The phone, also known as the T-Mobile Revvl 7 Pro in some markets, was made and “glued” by Chinese manufacturer Wingtech for Telekom. However, this manufacturer has already made phones for several other major phone companies, and continues to produce phones to this day, so it is not a newcomer.
However, now, something has gone wrong with the device, according to a leaked internal memo, not the simple T Phone 2, but the T Phone 2 Pro 5G, also known as the Revvl 7 Pro, must be immediately returned to all branches and sold to partner companies.
Worryingly, the memo didn’t mention the reason for the recall, only saying that when returning it, partners should mark the answer as “the customer was dissatisfied with the device during use.” Based on comments online, some complain about dropped calls, others complain about the wireless charging getting too hot.
Of course, we did not leave the rumors at this point, and also asked Magyar Telekom about the situation, which is strange only because the device can still be ordered on the local company's website and can be purchased immediately in many stores. We received the following response, which we report without modification:
“The AT Phone 2 Pro 5G is currently available in Hungary, and international sales of the devices will start again soon, depending on the markets. At Telekom, the quality of our services and products is the most important thing for us, so we are confident that the T Phone 2 Pro 5G will meet these high expectations.”
