The authorities called on winter sports enthusiasts to exercise extreme caution.
Several skiers have been killed in various accidents in Austria, where authorities have warned of an avalanche risk.
- In Tyrolean Zillertal, the body of a young skier is found under a block of snow.
- Rescuers also found a body in the mountains of western Austria on Saturday under the avalanche after heavy snowfall. In Kleinwalsertal, the search began on Friday evening after several reports of avalanches, particularly from Tyrol.
- In the Arlberg Mountains, they searched for two people presumably trapped in an avalanche, but the search was suspended due to heavy snowfall and strong winds that put rescuers in danger.
- On Friday, a 32-year-old Chinese skier died in an avalanche in the Tyrolean Otz Valley, and a young boy was swept away in an avalanche in the Kitzbühel region and seriously injured.
The authorities called on winter sports enthusiasts to exercise extreme caution. In higher areas, avalanche danger has been raised to level four on a five-point scale.
Winter weather also causes traffic disruptions on the roads. According to the Austrian automobile club ÖAMTC, seventeen roads are closed due to avalanche danger, and snow chains are mandatory on 46 road sections.
