The Tesla Model Y was the UK’s best-selling car in June 2023. According to data released on Wednesday by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 5,539 Model Ys were sold in June. Going forward, SMMT also announced that the number of new car registrations in June jumped 25.8 percent year-on-year. 177,266 new cars were registered in Britain last month. After positive new figures in June, the number of new car registrations in the UK increased for the 11th consecutive month.
The growing demand for electric vehicles was behind the jump in new car registrations in June. On a yearly basis, 40.1 percent more electric vehicles were sold, and shipments of gasoline-powered vehicles increased 22.7 percent in the same period.
SMMT CEO Mike Hawes said lowering taxes on public electric vehicle tolls has made electric driving more attractive.
