– During the development of Lake Balaton and its area, the lake and its surroundings should be considered as a place to live and a holiday destination – stressed the Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development at the Balaton Conference in Veszprém.
Tibor Navracsics home or vacation? In his inaugural lecture entitled, he described that making Lake Balaton not only a vacation spot, but also a liveable place, is an important goal.
The basic condition for achieving this is the formation of more friendly and people-oriented cities and the provision of high-level public services in the countryside.
– The development of the South Transdanubia Highway and the improvement of education and employment indicators in the region are also a priority, said Tibor Navracsics.
All this can be achieved in cooperation with the interests of people living here and vacationers. Development policy goals include making Hungary one of the five most livable member states of the Union by 2030. This is primarily a function of interpersonal relations. The regional development law adopted last year emphasizes cooperation.

During development, this must be taken into account
Lake Balaton is one of the oldest regions in the country.
From an educational point of view, the eastern basin of Balaton is more advantageous, while the western basin is in a worse position.
In terms of the proportion of graduates living there, Veszprém and Balatonfüred are more favourable, the others are average, and the Markali district is in a particularly bad position.
In terms of employment, the regions represent the national average, but in some cases they have lower indicators.

Indigenous migration and migration from other areas can be observed in many areas, and the Balatonalmad area is an exception, where initial migration is typical.
The rise in property prices in Balaton makes the picture even darker, as in many cases young people do not have enough money to buy a property, and in many cases they also resell their inherited properties.
– We have to look at Lake Balaton as an ecosystem, a wealth and a place of residence at the same time, so that it is possible to achieve reasonable development of the region.
The minister stressed.
– The most important benefit of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program year is the continued cooperation of the settlements, said Alize Markovits, CEO of Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Zrt.
