The brand new Subaru Outback has arrived

The new generation Outback will arrive at European Subaru dealerships in April of this year. The sixth edition of the 26-year-old SUV is said to be particularly safe: the model provides no fewer than eleven active driver support functions, from blind-spot monitoring to emergency reverse braking to the rear seat occupancy warning. The reversing camera has a washer, so it can be used in rain, mud or out in the field.

The Outback is also more structurally safer, with its body able to absorb 40 percent more energy without deforming the passenger cell. Thus, the car fulfills the Euro NCAP crash test with a moving obstacle.

Subaru cannot exist without a box engine and permanent all-wheel drive system; The continuously variable automatic transmission has also been retained in the formula. The 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine is only known by name, and in fact a 90% new design with a higher compression ratio. The transmission has also been redesigned, with a shift range equivalent to that of a modern eight-speed automatic transmission, with transmission losses reduced by 22%. The all-wheel drive system provides torque transmission control at a base rate, that is, the active sharing of the momentum applied to the left and right wheels. The SI-Drive change-mode system for controlling gas reactions is still available (as standard). New is X-Mode, which offers better terrain on snow, dirt roads, or mud than before.

During the rework, the amount of vibration entering the passenger compartment was reduced, the noise comfort level was improved, and the shock absorption was better on uneven road surfaces. Body tilt is reduced by 50%, the direct forward position is improved and the steering becomes more direct. Acoustic foil is affixed to the windshield and front side windows.

The supply of space has improved in all directions, with the trunk even getting bigger, at 522 liters instead of the previous 512 liters. In Subaru the door can be opened without a hand for the first time (but not the foot but the elbow that needs to get close to the car), just touch the cover to back off. If more space is needed, the roof rack with integrated cross bars and mounting holes is in a hurry to help us. Loading aided by non-slip embossed sill inserts.

The seats and seat upholstery are new as well – waterproof upholstery is available upon request – and the look of the dashboard has been changed. The absolute novelty is the 11.6-inch touch screen in vertical format, which, in addition to standard smartphone integration, also has a face recognition function: it knows the user behind the wheel and automatically remembers the saved seat, mirrors and climate settings.

The free ground clearance has been increased to 213 mm and the maximum towable weight to 2 tons. This is enhanced by a 70 percent increase in torsional and an improvement in bending stiffness by 90 percent.
