We can sense Canadian speed skater Evanni Blondin’s success somewhat in our own right, as Konrad Nagy is Debrecen’s wife of excellence. So at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, we were huge fans of the Canadian team, which eventually – with Ivani Blondin in their ranks – won the Olympic championship. Ivani also excelled in singles, finishing second behind Holland’s Irene Schooten in the women’s mass race.
The Canadian woman’s medal collection, who specializes in the longest numbers, has been completed at this year’s Five Ring Games, where she can now display Olympic gold and silver as well as world championship titles.
By the way, Olympic medals! Ivani brought his gold and silver medal in Beijing to Debrecen, and when he visited the primary school in Leela Square, he even let the students who greeted him with great admiration “try it”. At Debrecen you can really feel right at home, since as a bilingual school everyone speaks English at a conversational level, so there was no need for an interpreter or other participants in the Lilla Square audience meeting.
Ivani really made her rich by saying she’s even more vibrant with a PPT presentation she made herself, giving her insight into the life of a world-leading professional athlete. He talked about the successes and failures, the difficult physical and mental challenges, his private life, his family, and finally his dog. He is known across Canada for his great friendship with animals, and also said in Debrecen that when he was previously depressed by failure, animal care shook him out of apathy by taking dogs home from the shelter for special care. At the end of his performance, questions and requests for selfies and autographs rained down, but Ivani withstood the well-deserved strike of an Olympic champion.
