The epidemic in Portugal is so devastating that health workers are calling from the European Union

In Portugal, the epidemic numbers became even more tragic: 291 people died in one day from contracting the Coronavirus on Tuesday, another record. The country’s health minister is asking for help from health professionals from European countries, writes MTI.

Also from Monday to Tuesday, 10,765 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded in Portugal. As a result of the epidemic, 11,012 people have already died in the Iberian country of 10.5 million people. Portugal currently has the most tragic seven-day death rate in the world by population.

Marta Temido The Minister of Health asked the European Union for help. He pointed out that, in the case of Portugal, transferring patients to other member states is not actually a solution due to the geographical location of the country, as it is on the edge of the union. Instead, Lisbon requires health personnel.

Temido told Portuguese public television that although hospitals are under a lot of pressure, there are still beds available, but staff shortages are getting worse.

However, as the Associated Press noted, the demand is difficult to meet, as all 26 other member states are struggling with the dire consequences of the pandemic, and the situation is worsening or threatening to exacerbate due to infectious virus variants.
