Ford plans to cut 3,000 jobs in the US, reports The Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper, the American car manufacturer got rid of about 2,000 “white collar” office workers and another 1,000 outside workers, which the company later confirmed. The layoffs affect employees working at the center in Dearborn, Michigan, who will be notified of the company’s decision later this week.
The reason for the downsizing is that the car manufacturer is reorganizing its business activities, within the framework of which it will switch to the production of electric cars. In July, news emerged that the company might lay off up to 8,000 workers from its traditional internal combustion engine business to help fund its electric vehicle business.
Ford said over the weekend that it would appeal a court ruling that ordered the manufacturer to pay $1.7 billion in damages for negligence in designing the F-250 pickup, which led to numerous accidents and several fatal road accidents.
The company’s shares fell five percent in trading on Monday, due to the unfavorable news.
