Hungarian European Parliament representation in Transylvania was in jeopardy after an increase in majority participation in Sunday's European Parliament elections in the evening hours, said Csoma Botond, spokesman of the Romanian-Hungarian Democratic Union (RMDSZ) in Cluj on Sunday.
According to the RMDSZ's assessment, it is “moving slowly” regarding whether the association will reach the five percent threshold to enter the European Parliament elections on Sunday, the MP from Cluj County said.
For the first time during the day, the Hungarian representation was in jeopardy. I ask the Hungarian people in the big cities and towns to go and vote. Please encourage your friends and neighbors too!
– said Ksoma Botonde.
Remind me of that You can vote until 22:00 Romanian timeThose who have stayed away from the polls so far have more than an hour at their disposal.
According to previous information released by the RMDSZ, Hungarian participation in Transylvania lagged behind the majority in the afternoon hours, especially in the larger cities, and this seems to have stabilized later. But in the evening hours, the number of participants in the elections in the big city increased, and thus the majority participation.
According to information from the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), at 8:00 pm Romanian time, turnout in the European Parliament elections was 47.82%, and the performance of counties inhabited by Hungarians was also almost higher than the national average.
45.82% of those eligible to vote participated in the local authorities elections as of eight in the evening. Both percentages are higher than the data recorded in the last European Parliament elections in 2019 and in the local authorities elections in 2020.
