According to the analyst, the main reason for this is that both countries have imposed on the other unattainable conditions.
The Chinese request included, among other things, that the United States withdraw the extradition request submitted by a high-ranking representative of Huawei, and not impede China’s development or infringe on China’s sovereignty. In the latter case, the sensitive issue of Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong, warned Americans to respect China’s territorial integrity.
According to Kennedy, China is practically asking the United States not to pay any attention to what is happening in China at all and basically allow the Asian country to do what it wants.
On the other hand, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, expressed concern that China is violating the values of the United States and its allies and undermining the world order based on international rules, referring to the abuses in Xinjiang and the dismantling of Hong Kong. Kong self-government, firm behavior on the part of China in the case of the South China Sea.
Despite all this, Kennedy believes there will be a personal meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Qingping at the G-20 summit in October.
