Kient was developed in 2002, but the road to release was not easy.

After more than two decades, the action platformer Kien was released for the Game Boy Advance handheld console, which began in 2002 with a five-person Italian development team. Although development was completed within two years, and even then the process was progressing relatively smoothly, the publisher pulled the project at the last minute for budget reasons.

Developer Age of Games was unable to agree on a release with potential partners, but Kient has now been picked up by retro games publisher InCube8, following renewed interest in nostalgia and increased demand for retro games.

Fabio Belsanti, lead designer of the five-person development team, put it this way: a dream come true. And so, Kien has won the title of the longest-running game of all time for 22 years, beating out titles like Duke Nukem Forever or Metroid Dread. Kien can be purchased both physically and digitally for $60 on the InCube 8 website.
