The parents were angry at their daughter, who completely ripped off her mother’s precious wedding dress
According to the angry father, the bride has destroyed the family inheritance, so he refuses to finance her wedding.
“Am I a fool for refusing to pay more for my daughter’s wedding after I cut pieces of her mother’s wedding dress for her?” – asked Father A on reddit.
He explained that his wife made her wedding dress herself that year with the help of her mother, so it is very important to her and she is proud of it.
It’s a simple yet adorable dress that she kept because she wanted her kids to wear it on their big day. On the other hand, stipulate that they can only take it in and out as they like, and will not allow it to be completely changed.
They have three daughters and one son, three of whom are already married. Their youngest daughter did not want to wear her mother’s dress, but her older sister did, and even their brother’s wife wore it to the civil ceremony. The boy solved the problem by placing the dress in front of him while the photo was taken.
Now it’s the middle girl’s turn who asks her parents to help her with the wedding expenses. The parents offered each of their children to support them financially with their studies, buy a house or finance the wedding, and Olivia chose the latter option. Her wedding will take place in August, and a few months ago she asked her mother for the dress she cherished so she could take it to tailor.
However, as it turns out, she not only had the dress tailored to her, but she totally changed it, so it was just a shade of her mother’s piece. The father discovered this when he went with his daughter to pay the advance dressmaker.

“It was a completely different dress, some parts of her mother’s dress were attached to it. I cut the straps, the silk belt, the barge, the embroidered petticoat, which was sewn to the new dress. I was confused, I asked what the hell was. (… My wife was devastated when I found out. She withdrew the payments that day and told my daughter I wouldn’t spend an extra cent on her wedding. She’s going to sort that out with her fiancé.”

According to her, her daughter defended herself by saying that she was the last of their children to wear the dress, she could change it to whatever she wanted, taking care to keep pieces of the original dress and return it to her mother. However, the father did not accept this, because he believed that the dress was completely different, and besides, Olivia had no right to spoil her mother’s wedding dress like that. She ordered her daughter to tell her mother what she had done with her clothes.
According to Olivia, her father overreacted to this situation and is upset that he is now retreating from expenses, because he organized everything based on the help of parents, without which they would not be able to pay for the wedding. On the other hand, the father believes that it would be justified to withdraw the financial support after what his daughter did.
He asked Redditors what they thought of it, and his post has already received over 2,000 comments. Many people wrote that it was extremely disrespectful for a bride to cut off her mother’s dress without asking her, and it was absolutely right if the parents did not donate money for the wedding afterwards. Many felt so sorry for the broken mother that her daughter had done something that could not be undone. They suggested that the parents tell the couple that if they do not have enough money to attend the wedding of their dreams, they should give in to their demands. Someone wrote that. “Tell your daughter that your full contribution to the wedding is already in her dress.”
The father later updated his message in which the mother also spoke. According to him, it also hurts him that his daughter tore her dress on the grounds that none of her brothers would wear it anyway, because she wanted to keep it as a memory.
“My mother taught me everything I knew about sewing. We spent months selecting materials and experimenting with experimental dresses while making them. It was my dress. It was the only precious thing I had fond memories of. I thought, too, to put it next to me in the casket, but I was going to wear it again.” Until then, and it will be our 40th anniversary in a couple of years, I was looking forward to wearing it again when we recreate our wedding photos.
It may seem that I choose my clothes over my daughter, but that is not the case. The fact that he did this behind our backs, his indifference and apparent lack of remorse hurts me the most. He won’t apologize or talk to me about it and he’s just worried about how to pay for his wedding. I didn’t raise him like that. I would gladly help her design the dress of her dreams had she requested, and she knows that for sure.”
At the end of the post, the parents also wrote that they would somehow try to save the dress, but even if it could be restored, Olivia would insist on her own dress, which she wants to keep even after the wedding.
“We don’t want to lose touch with our daughter, but we agree that this cannot continue without consequences, and we cannot move forward until Olivia refuses to do anything,” the father concluded.
