About 120 students who participated in Girls' Day on the MATE Kaposvár campus on Thursday were able to immerse themselves in the world of science. The Foundation organized this event for the third time, and the aim is to stimulate interest in scientific, technological and technical careers.
Lena Buda and Malna Kuzma from Mihaly Munkasi High School came to the girls' day. -We are both interested in the scientific profession, primarily medicine. We would also like to learn about the possibilities that the Kaposvári Campus offers. We believe that women have a place in the scientific field and, in many cases, can think more purposefully than men.
Nearly 120 female students were able to learn about different fields of science in six locations. In this way, they can approach the world of physiology, microorganisms, mathematics, drones, or even embryology, among others. “They can see why embryo production is important,” said Katalin Nagy, a scientific assistant at the Institute of Animal Husbandry Sciences. “I will offer embryo freezing and they can also try the pipetting process.”
At the opening, Associate Professor Veronica Halas encouraged the girls to choose a career in which they find joy. – Every year there is great interest in the programmes, and we see that if we can show them interesting things, and then later involve them in research, they will be happy to choose a scientific profession. I do not believe that there are professions for girls and boys, as male and female characteristics are not fixed.
He added: There are areas in which women are better, and in others, men are better. Women, for example, are very meticulous in most situations and are prepared for all possible scenarios.
