The government’s decision has been published: Another special economic zone is coming, Donaujvaros may lose a lot

Government 362/2021. (vi. 28.) Regarding the designation of the Danube side – the Weger Special Economic Zone was published in the Hungarian Gazette on Monday evening. It states that

The Government defines a Special Economic Zone in the administrative district of the village of Iváncsa and the city of Rácalmás under the name Danube-mente – Fejér County, as defined in paragraph 2.

The decree, signed by Viktor Orban and entered into force on July 1, defines specific areas for Ivancha and Racalmas, which he will turn into a special economic zone, uniformly. This means the area of SK Innovation’s ongoing investment in GB in Iváncsá, and the area of South Korea’s Hankook Rubber plant in Rácalmás.

The regulation is interesting because, as it was leaked in May, Dunaújváros may be excluded from business tax returns for Hankook Rubber Plant and SK Innovation. The establishment of the new economic zone was officially announced in May. And the president of the general assembly at that time promised to propose outside the production headquarters Municipalities located between the two industrial zones: Adony and Kulcs will benefit from the tax received. According to the wording of the regulation, this was the case, For the municipalities of the City of Adony, Iváncsa, Kulcs and Rácalmás are the municipalities directly affected by the investment.

Thus, some settlements in the region can be directly happy with this decision, but Donagvaros feels financially bad. The city, which has former county status, has established an industrial park with Iváncsa and Rácalmás, so it gets 50% of the business tax. However, from now on, the local government in Fajr County has the right to collect and distribute business tax further. In the case of Hankook in Rácalmás, that would mean a loss of half a billion forints to Dunavjváros this year. With this move, of course, Rácalmás and Iváncsa will also have less business tax collected so far, but based on the example of a similar case (Göd), they can hope to receive compensation.

Krisztián Molnár, Chairman of the Board, wrote that tax revenue received by county self-government could be used by county self-government in a more targeted manner to support the development and operation of settlements in the county, especially those affected by investment. County autonomy.
