According to the paper form, the US team will be the opponent of Hungary in the quarter-finals of the men’s water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka.
The Hungarian-American quarter-final will take place on Tuesday at 11:00am CET, with the meeting broadcast live on M4 Sport and m4sport.hu.
With their 13-10 win over the Canadians on Sunday, the Americans secured their place among the eight, with Zsolt Varga’s team automatically qualifying as group leader.
The last time the two teams met was three weeks ago in the World Cup Super Final bronze match in Los Angeles. The “first place” was won by the Hungarians after five meters, but due to the caution of the hosts, the last 4:24 minutes were returned after two hours, after which the Americans won the third.
The Croats, who were in the same group as the Hungarians – who lost to Zsolt Varga’s team 12-10 – won the first quarter in a big fight, but only then “ran after the score”, and although they managed to equalize, the neighboring city eventually prevailed.
The Serbian national team, which confirmed the format on paper, confidently defeated the host Japanese team, thus reaching the quarter-finals. The Italians, the silver medalists of last year’s World Championships in Hungary, are waiting for the Serbs in the quarterfinals.
The two World Cup winners will qualify for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
