Cinema News – David Fincher’s Netflix movie The Killer reunites the director with the writer of the instant classic The Seventh after 28 years.
Netflix’s The Killer marks the long-awaited reunion between director David Fincher and one of his key collaborators. Fincher has established himself as one of the most important filmmakers of the past 30 years. But his career got off to a rocky start because of Alien 3. This 1992 sci-fi sequel was a harrowing production for all involved. He may have killed his movie career before it even got started. But a few years later, he’s back to his old ways with the classic action thriller Se7en.
The film’s stunning performances, rich visuals, and shocking finale twist kicked off a string of great films.
David Fincher’s film production has slowed significantly in the past decade. Meanwhile, he focused on TV series like Mindhunter. Although his Netflix biopic Mank received positive reviews, it was quickly forgotten after its 2020 release. However, his upcoming thriller seems to be back in its old form again. The film follows titular killer Michael Fassbender after his job fails. Not only does it mark the return of Fassbender – who’s been largely absent from the big screen since 2019 – but it also marks the big reunion between Fincher and seventh screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker.
He united the killer David Fincher and the writer of the novel “The Seventh”.
Walker’s screenplay for The Seventh caused quite a stir in Hollywood. Many filmmakers and studios were put off by how dark and violent the material was. Only thanks to the later insistence of director Fincher and star Brad Pitt did the ending survive. The success of the film transformed the lives of all of them. Walker later went on to write films such as Sleepy Hollow, while also writing the script for films such as Event Horizon and Fincher’s Fight Club. While Netflix probably won’t be promoting The Killer with this big of a reunion, it’s exciting nonetheless.
Venture and Walker have likable creative instincts, and their first major collaboration will in many ways define their future careers.
When it comes to dark psychological thrillers, few do it better than Venture Walker (as seen in the 8MM thriller Nic Cage). The duo has a great source of original comic book material. The combination of Fincher, Walker, and Fassbender makes The Killer a must-see movie. Hopefully this will be a return to their old form for all three.
