Almost any game can never be guaranteed to be financially successful, but Paradox Interactive failed beyond all expectations with their XCOM-like tactical game. The studio has already dismissed The Lamplighters League as a failure.
1930s, secret society, mysterious conspiracies, Lovecraftian horror, and good old turn-based XCOM tactics. No one can say that The Lamplighters League doesn’t look very promising, especially considering that Paradox Interactive was the publisher and that Harebrained Schemes, developer of both Shadowrun and Battletech games, was behind the project. However, despite all this, players did not really bite this unique creation …
Not so much that Paradox considers the game, which was released about a week ago, to be an abject failure, which not only did not make back its development costs in its opening week, but also represented a loss of about $22.7 million for the publisher. To put it mildly, it can be said that it is not worth waiting for the continuation. Frederik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive, described the situation as follows:
“Lamplighters League is a fun game with a lot of strengths. Even though it’s on subscription services We’re seeing poor but still positive numbers for players, and the commercial reception has been very poor, which is honestly a huge disappointment.
In the short statement above, Wester points out that the first-day debut on Xbox Game Pass this time around wasn’t enough to help The Lamplighters League climb out of the hole with its player count and Microsoft’s salary. We’re sorry the game has met this fate – if you have an active Game Pass subscription and love tactical turn-based games, give it a try while you can!
