Stratolaunch Roc, the model with the largest wing extension ever built, rose again on Thursday Space.com. This was the second time the machine had been tested – the first time He flew in 2019. With the help of Roc, they will want to launch hypersonic vehicles in the future.
Rock took off from Mojave Air Force Base in southeast California Thursday afternoon, Hungarian time. The test flight to obtain the data took 3 hours and 14 minutes, and the plane rose to an altitude of 4,267 meters and reached a speed of 320 kilometers per hour. Zachary CrevorStratolaunch’s director of operations said they were pleased with the aircraft’s performance and were excited to see when they could launch their first hypersonic vehicle.
Stratolaunch was created in 2011 by the co-founder of Windows Paul Allen. The goal was to launch satellites from Rock, but Allen, who died in October 2018, could no longer see the model fly. The company was sold to its current owners in October 2019.
Now the plan is to launch other high-flying Roc jets. Stratolaunch is also developing its hypersonic vehicles, and the first start-up test could take place in 2022.
