According to Attila Hanacsik, Chairman of the Referees Committee of the Hungarian Football Federation, the level of Hungarian refereeing is on the rise, and thanks to the video referee (VAR), the number of gross errors in the OTP Bank league has decreased significantly.

“Inspection reports show that the level of the Hungarian leadership is clearly and indisputably improving. Nothing proves this better than the fact that three referees have been awarded qualifying matches for the European Championship.” – he said in an interview with the current channel M1 Attila Hanacsik, who also stated that all six internationally accredited referees have been given duties in the European Cup Series qualifiers.
The Sports Leader reported that in the previous top-flight season, there had only been 17 such blunders “It could have a direct impact on the outcome of the match.”In his opinion, this would not have been possible without VAR. In this regard, he noted “This is such a low number that it never happened.”.
Hanacsek explained that without VAR technology there are still sixty such errors, that is, with the introduction of the technology a reduction of 70% has been achieved, which is a very impressive result. He added that not only the number of fouls, but also the number of tackles decreased in the second year of using video assistive technology by thirty percent, meaning that the decisions taken on the field also improved. He also reported an improvement in long scans, which are down 43 per cent compared to VAR’s first season.
The former international referee confirmed that despite the progress, he was still not fully satisfied.
