The Ministry of Culture and Innovation considers Géza Tordi a dead man

The Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) considers the worthy and excellent actor, director and artist, laureate of the Geza Torde Kossuth Prize, and a hereditary member of the Assembly of Immortals, laureate of the Geza Torde Kossuth Prize. The ministry informed MTI on Sunday.

Géza Tordi, who died on Saturday aged 85, was born in Budapest in 1938.

According to the department's announcement, he was accepted into the Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1956, but acting training did not begin that year. He began his career in Kaposvár in 1956, where János Zak, Kaposvár's stage manager, hired him as a supporting actor. In 1957 he signed a two-year contract with Szeged, then at the age of 21 he became a member of the Hungarian People's Army Theater (Vígszínház). Between 1963 and 1967, he signed a contract with the Madach Theater, then returned to Wegszenhas in 1967. Since 1982 he has taught for several years at the University of Theater and Film. From 1985 to 1988 he was the director and then from 1988 to 1990 he was the chief director of the Petofi Theater in Veschprem. Since 1992, he has been artistic director of the prose department of the National Theater of Győr, and from 1995 he has been chief director of the Budapest Chamber Theatre, KIM reports.

According to the ministry's announcement, Géza Tordi received the Marie Jassa Prize in 1970 and 1977, became a Meritorious Artist in 1980, and a Distinguished Artist in 1988. His work was recognized in 1991 with the Kossuth Prize. Géza Torde was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, and he also received the Gyula Hegedes Award, the Andor Agtay Award, the Bílksi Tivadar Award, and the Eva Rutkai Memorial Ring. In 2005, he was elected from among the hereditary members of the Assembly of Immortals, in 2008 he became the representative of the nation.
