In our Moments of the Week section, each Monday we highlight the most important events of the previous seven days, whether it was a joyful, sad, exciting, important, terrifying or even poignant moment.
As we previously mentioned briefly in our weekly news recap, the series showcasing last year's Cup Series playoffs, NASCAR: Full Speed, opened the door with an exciting trailer. The work consists of five episodes, each lasting 45 minutes, and will debut on Netlix on January 30. Series creators followed nine drivers closely with their cameras, with Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick also playing a central role.
Full Speed is a collaboration between Words + Pictures and NASCAR Studios. Browsing through the list of producers, we can find names like Tim Clark and Ben Kennedy, both vice presidents of NASCAR, or Dale Earnhardt Jr., a two-time Daytona 500 winner, who also commentated on the series at the peopleto. “The intensity of the qualifying format in NASCAR is unlike anything else in motorsports. NASCAR: Full Speed is a great opportunity for people to learn more about how the sport works, who these drivers are and what makes them the best in the world at what they do.”

“The playoffs provide the perfect dramatic backdrop to tell a story full of suspense and unforgettable characters. After spending the past few months with these competitors on and off the field, I look forward to taking fans and casual viewers alike deeper into “This amazing world.”
Based on Shell's words, we can conclude that the creators do not want to follow the path set by Drive to Survive around Formula 1, which is mainly aimed at attracting new viewers. Partly due to the influence of the series, Formula 1's popularity among American youth has increased dramatically in recent years, and NASCAR will also be in dire need of it, so Full Speed is not expected to be aimed exclusively at fans. However, it must also be taken into account that not all of these initiatives become successful, for example, MotoGP Unlimited was launched after only one season, so an interesting question is whether the new series will be able to find its place.
Full Speed won't be the first NASCAR-themed docuseries to hit Netflix. In 2022, a six-part series about Bubba Wallace was added to the streaming service's interface.
