You may have heard the cries of devastated fans as rumors surfaced that Jolie and the Phantom would return after a shock cancellation four years ago.
From the mind of High School Musical legend Kenny Ortega, Julie and the Phantoms (JATP) aired for one season on Netflix to near-perfect ratings.
Starring Madison Reyes and Charlie Gillespie, the first season has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans calling it a “masterpiece” on the site.
The film follows Julie (Madison) as she pursues her dream of becoming a musician with the help of a group of teenagers – who have been dead for 25 years.
Although it may not have been very popular, JATP was critically acclaimed and won three Daytime Emmy Awards as well as being nominated for 10 others.
Netflix has been repeatedly criticized for cutting shows that fans love for seemingly no reason — but this one isn't going down without a fight.
Since its fate was decided in December 2021 after months of uncertainty, there has been a change petition by fans to revive the musical series which has gained 330,000 signatures.
Nothing has been announced but speculation has also been raised Hollywood Reporter “Kenny's overall deal with Netflix is no longer in place,” she revealed.
This could free up his creative control and mean that JATP may be able to be picked up by other networks.
Fans also spotted Charlie, 25, appearing to have cut his usually long hair in a style similar to Luke's skater boy.
His co-star Jeremy Stada who plays bandmate Reggie Peters also shared a clip of himself performing This Band is Back, a song from the show.
Jolie herself, Madison, tweeted: “Missing Jolie and the Phantom, I knew what it could be like… bruh 😭🥹 I'm sad I don't talk about it because it makes me sad 😮💨.”
Days later, she further complicated matters by sharing a cryptic message on X: “Julie + Madison = Moth.”
“The answers to your questions are very much in the post, let's just say it can't give you one thing you want but it can give you another #NewMusicAlert,” she added.
In a twist of fate, Kenny also added a mention to the JATP Instagram page in his bio for the first time in four years.
As fan speculation grew online, Madison joked: “You guys make me think Jatp is coming back haha.”
Other cast members also added fuel to the fire like Savannah LeMae and Jada Marie with various tweets and TikTok posts.
JATP was canceled after one season in 2020
