The Samsung SmartTag2 tracker is official

Samsung recently unveiled a bunch of new devices, members of its Fan Edition series, which are affordable models, but still on the border of the premium segment. Smartphones, tablets and wireless earbuds have also arrived, but their company also launched the second generation of the South Korean manufacturer’s SmartTag tracker, which features a more durable design, longer operating time and more functions. The design now includes a metal ring, so the little device can be used for more things.

One of the new functions is Lost Mode, in which the owner of the SmartTag2 can enter their contact information, so that if the online tracker is lost, the person who finds it can scan it using NFC on the phone. You can then notify the owner if you wish.

The new compass function makes finding objects easier, as it can show the tracker’s approximate direction relative to us. This option can only be used with ultra-wideband devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S Ultra models.

SmartTag2 also received a power saving mode, in which the operating time can be increased to 700 days, which is almost twice the capacity of the previous generation, and the device works in normal mode for about 500 days. This is 50 percent longer operating time than before.

Obviously, the power saving mode limits some options and functions, but Samsung has not yet explained what these options are.

With the arrival of the new tracker, the companion app has also been updated, so SmartThings Find now displays a full-screen map view with a completely new interface. Samsung SmartTag2 can automatically sync with our new Galaxy smartphone, as long as we’re signed in with the same Samsung account on both devices.

The app can also be used to locate the tracker using a camera, combining Bluetooth LE, UWB and augmented reality technologies. Such a device could provide opportunities for misuse, but Samsung has taken steps against that. For example, if an unknown SmartTag2 follows us, i.e. moves with us, the application “Unknown tracker“It sends us an alert.

This is a very important feature since there are examples of similar devices being used to commit crimes. Fortunately, major tech companies like Apple and Google are working together to prevent something like this from happening in the future.

The Samsung SmartTag2 will be released on October 11, will be available worldwide and will cost $30 or 11,000 forints. Did you guys use any kind of tracking markers, and if so, what did you put on them?
