The scammers sent SMS messages in the name of Netflix

The victim provided his bank card details.

A 30-year-old Varpalota resident recently received an SMS on his phone saying that his subscription to one of the online streaming providers, Netflix, had been suspended due to a problem with it. To solve this problem, a link was sent in the message, through which the victim provided his bank card details and security verification code. Then 100,000 Hungarian forints were withdrawn from his account without permission.

In order to avoid such and similar crimes, please accept the prevention recommendations issued by the Veszprém District Police Headquarters:

  • Do not give your bank card details to strangers under any circumstances! The CVC code located on the reverse side cannot be requested during official administration, but at the same time, knowing this, unauthorized persons can conduct online transactions without the physical presence of a bank card.
  • If you are making online transactions with a financial or other service provider, we recommend that you do so via an installed application from an official and trusted source of the person concerned!
  • Never click on a link sent via SMS or email from an unknown source!

You can find more useful information on the website www.kiberpajzs.hu about the possibilities of preventing crimes committed online.
