Nausida made the announcement after meeting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Vilnius on Tuesday.

Since the fall of 2022, Berlin has kept a reserve brigade in Germany on alert in case Russia attacks Lithuania. There is currently only one German command post in Lithuania with about twenty armed soldiers and equipment spread across the country. Another 760 German soldiers are stationed in Lithuania as part of a NATO combat unit led by the Bundeswehr.
