Visitors say this year’s festival isn’t real, there’s no crowd, but whoever attended is at least alive, and that’s the point.
The Venice Carnival has begun, as people in costumes and masks reminiscent of the 18th century once again take over the city of lakes. Many of them took pictures of themselves in St Mark’s Square or other great places. The carnival will take place amid pandemic restrictions, with signs warning participants to comply.
Australian carnival Fiona Spagnolo said the 2022 Carnival is quieter than usual and the program is less than usual, but they host their own parties so it will be fun.
“The carnival for me is a symbol of reopening after the pandemic. I hope to see many disguised carnivals again this year.”
Said an Italian man named Matteo.
Christina Ferrardo from Germany says there are a few carnivals, but whoever gets out is at least alive, and that’s the point. He believes that Venice is wonderful and encourages everyone to visit the famous Italian city.
The carnival continues until March 1, when anyone can come across the masked revelers on the Riwalto Bridge or even one of the gondolas on the Grand Canal, euronews.
