The US Treasury Department announced on Wednesday that the United States is imposing sanctions on a number of members of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas, as well as their financial interests and asset management. The sanctions apply to 10 members of the Palestinian armed group operating in Gaza, Sudan, Turkey, Algeria and Qatar, who help maintain and operate the organization’s multi-asset investment portfolio.
Among those involved is Mohammed Ahmed Nasrallah, a Qatar-based financial intermediary with close ties to the Iranian government, who has helped Hamas obtain tens of millions of dollars in recent years. Among those subject to the sanctions is Sudanese investor Musa Mohamed Salem Dudin, who helped the group raise $20 million recently.
The operators of the organization’s investment network in Turkey and Algeria are also subject to US sanctions, as well as the digital money trading business which is part of Hamas’s sphere of interest. As a result of the actions announced today, all assets of persons and organizations subject to US jurisdiction, as well as actors that establish business relationships with them, will be frozen.

At the time of the announcement, the US Treasury Secretary said that the United States would take swift and decisive action against Hamas’ financial supporters and intermediaries. The announcement stated that the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control had already taken action in May 2022 against individuals and organizations managing Hamas’ secret investment portfolio.
