On September 23, during the official visit of the Ukrainian Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Toshsetky, the American side handed over cultural values from the occupied territories of Ukraine that had been stolen by Russia.
At the Headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, Robert Silvers, US Deputy Secretary of National Security for Strategy, Policy and Planning, four pieces, 9-13. He handed over a century-old iron sword to Mykola Toksekj.
According to Robert Silvers, the medieval weapons were discovered when several CBP officers at the International Post Office in Newark, New Jersey, discovered a package that allegedly contained a barbecue set. Officials checked it and sent the package for further verification. After that, the experts went to the Museum of the History of Ukraine in Kiev, handed over the photos, and found that they were Ukrainian cultural heritage, treasures from the country’s distinctive past, and Silvers commented on the event.
Incidentally, seven more items are currently being investigated, and Ukrainian experts are trying to identify them based on photos.
“Every returned artifact represents a small victory in our battle for our identity, and ultimately our victory. Our artworks are symbols of Ukraine’s idea and desire for freedom and independence,” said Mykola Toshsky.
The minister added: The recovered swords are not just weapons, but symbols of the deep historical connection between Ukrainians and their ancestors and the strength of the Ukrainian nation.
