The US Embassy in Budapest reacted to the fact that pro-government factions are boycotting the extraordinary parliamentary session that began on Monday regarding the ratification of Sweden's accession to NATO. The statement sent to our newspaper on Friday evening also reminds us that Hungary is the last NATO member that has not yet accepted Sweden's membership. For this reason, the United States “welcomes the convening of the special parliamentary session on an issue critical to our shared security.”
Viktor Orban has promised that Hungary will act at the first opportunity. Monday's meeting is one such occasion.
On January 29, opposition representatives began holding an extraordinary parliamentary session so that Parliament could take a decision as soon as possible on ratifying Sweden's accession to NATO.
