The Democratic-controlled US House of Representatives voted to restore abortion rights across the country after the US Supreme Court weeks earlier. Overturned Roe v WadeOn Friday, the Associated Press wrote that it abolished the right to abortion at the federal level.
Proposition 219 was supported and 210 opposed. The House passed another law 223:205, according to which it is forbidden to punish a woman or a minor for abortion in another state, if the interference is not permitted in their place of residence.
At the same time, the House vote opened a new chapter in the debate that has divided the United States and caused major headaches for lawmakers and local governors after it referred abortion regulation to the state’s jurisdiction.
Nancy Pelosi The House Speaker called it outrageous that, fifty years after the ruling in Roe v. Wade, “women must once again fight for their most basic rights against an extremist court.” Republicans objected to the new legislation passed by the House of Representatives and welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision.
At the end of June, the US Supreme Court decided to invalidate the ruling in Roe v. Wade. In the 1973 legal case, the council ruled that restrictions on abortion rights were unconstitutional. As a result of the change, member states are free to regulate abortion. According to the Associated Press, half of the states can ban abortion.
