Instead, Microsoft has discontinued the ability to install the update on some devices.
Microsoft's big annual update package arrived at the beginning of October: Windows 11 became available 24 hours a day. So far, users have mostly given mixed feedback about the latest version of the operating system, mainly due to several unpleasant bugs that prevent smooth use of the new features. There were a lot of blue screen crashes after the system update, but an undeletable folder containing several gigabytes of data appeared, which also annoyed users.
In the past few days, another frustrating bug has emerged affecting some Asus devices. Based on user reports, the new version cannot be installed on the manufacturer's X415KA and X515KA laptops at all – instead of completing the update, an error message is displayed and then the system crashes. This may be due to hardware incompatibility. As a result, Microsoft has discontinued the update option on affected devices and has not yet announced when it will be available again.
It also turns out that in addition to Asus's own compatibility issues, the update package may also cause issues with the devices' built-in cameras that use facial or object recognition. Although Microsoft did not share details about the issue, it appears that the Camera app, Windows Hello, and other similar features may also be affected.
Microsoft recommends that you do not manually install the 24H2 build if you experience any of the above issues. Hopefully, a fix will be rolled out soon which will fix the issues and allow you to install the update again.
