According to the French pilot, the Alps under his leadership behave unpredictably: in one race they look strong, but in another they do not even reach the top ten – he got the last in the local time trial.
While Fernando Alonso finished seventh in qualifying for the French Formula 1 Grand Prix, only intermediate teams’ Lando Norris managed to overtake him, while his teammate Esteban Ocon in front of the home crowd finished only 12th. The alpine driver was understandably depressed after qualifying, but more importantly he couldn’t really find an explanation for why his performance fluctuated from race to race:
“We definitely had a disappointing time experience. Our timing is horrible,” Ocon said in the presence of Formula.hu. “We haven’t finished where we should, I think the car has the potential to finish sixth or seventh. So we’re not satisfied, but we’ve been struggling with an inconsistent car for a few races now. We were last in the third free practice, which is unimaginable. Fifth place in Austria and last place here in FP3, that’s impossible. So we are not where we want to be. It’s a hard problem to solve, but it’s definitely a fundamental thing that we need to find.”
When asked if he notices problems based only on lap time or whether he feels them while sitting in the car, the Frenchman replied: “I feel like that, for example, I struggled a lot with over-steering at the end of training, I couldn’t control it.” The back of the car.And the settings are basically very close to the two cars so you shouldn’t act like that.I think the improvements and everything we’ve put in is working as expected.But yeah, a few races ago,we’ve performed like a rollercoaster.The car worked fine. Ocon also mentioned that he had to deal with something similar last year, when the problems were resolved by replacing the bodywork. In any case, the Frenchman did not give up scoring on Sunday, and thanks to Carlos Sainz and Kevin Magnussen’s penalty kicks, he has already improved two positions: “We will start from the top 10, which is good in itself. .and then hopefully we can win some positions. Which we can fill in. But I think we’ll have some performance flaws.”
