Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke to reporters on July 28, revealing the list of countries willing to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), created before the summit.
Earlier today, it became known that Lavrov met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The diplomats discussed the activities and prospects of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the modernization of the alliance and the increase of its authority on the international stage. The ministers also discussed the development of Eurasia and the issue of maintaining peace in the region.
On July 14, Uzbek Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov announced that all SCO leaders had confirmed their participation. He added that the meeting is expected to be attended by heads of the observer states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and partner organizations – the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the European Economic Community and others.
The next summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held on September 15-16 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Eight countries are currently members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: the Republic of India, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The organization is currently in active dialogue with six countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
