Android 15's journey got off to a somewhat unusual start this year, as Google released the system at the beginning of September, an open-source AOSP version to be precise, but since then no previous Pixel phones have been updated, and the new Pixel 9 models are still running Android. 14, and it appeared for the first time after that. However, there is one manufacturer that has already started making updates, ahead of Google and all the others.
Until now, Google has always been the first to release new versions of the Android operating system, and Pixel phones are usually updated as soon as the current system is announced. It was different this year, and while Pixel users are still waiting for Android 15, Vivo has already started rolling out the new system, before all other manufacturers.
Chinese brand Announce The Funtouch OS 15 interface is built on Android 15, and has begun updating its current top models, the X100 series devices, the bendable X Fold 3 Pro, and even the IQOO 12.
Funtouch OS 15 is Vivo's custom skin built on top of Android 15, which adds its own features to the new Android version released by Google. In addition to the standard Android 15 capabilities, Vivo is introducing more AI-based features in its flagship devices, such as the Gallery AI Eraser (which we assume works similarly to Google Photos Magic Editor) and the Shadow Removal Tool. The update includes the Live Transcribe feature among many other things.
Google will release its updates sometime in October, perhaps in the middle of the month, and after that other manufacturers may come, including Samsung, which usually releases the new system very quickly for many of its devices.
