They changed their lifestyle when they grew older, and lived to be 100 years old: A new study has reached a surprising conclusion

Recent research has yielded amazing results: if a person changes his lifestyle in old age, it can significantly contribute to a longer life, and can even reach the age of 100 years.

Healthy lifestyle in old age

Published in the academic journal JAMA Network Stady Even for people over eighty years old, it is beneficial to live or switch to a healthy lifestyle, because the right diet and regular exercise can significantly increase lifespan.

In the study, 1,454 participants who had reached the age of 100 and 3,768 who had died were examined. According to the results, those who scored highest on the healthy lifestyle measure – which took into account smoking habits, exercise and dietary diversity – were significantly more likely to reach their 100th birthday than those who scored lowest.

Effects of a healthy lifestyle

The research highlights that healthy habits have long-term benefits even into old age. Among participants, those who scored 5-6 on the healthy lifestyle scale lived the longest, with 276 of the 851 people included here reaching 100 years of age. Conversely, those who scored 0-2 lived the shortest.

According to experts, reaching the age of 100 is a worthy goal because it encourages people to make healthy choices that can increase life expectancy and improve quality of life.
